Larry Vuckovich celebrates his 82st birthday with his annual concert. Jeff Chambers, one of the most versatile and acclaimed bassists on the international scene, joins Larry Vuckovich in an duo format. Larry will open with some solo piano selections, after which he will bring Jeff to the stage. As always, there will be delicious treats and refreshments to express thanks to our jazz listeners.

Vocalist Kenny Washington, a native of New Orleans, returns to his roots to do a program of New Orleans tunes accompanied by the Erik Jekabson New Orleans Quintet featuring clarinetist Rob Barics.

TAJ was created in 2016 by Tim Wendel, Art Lande, and Josh Reed to play new, challenging, original music. Exploring beauty, complexity, and the possibilities inherent in the guitar, piano, and trumpet, this band offers each musician the opportunity to play any and all musical roles. Adding to the trio are Peter Barshay on bass and Alan Hall on drums. The ability of this unconventional group to explore, create, and present original compositions and well known music in original and interesting ways is key to TAJ and the TAJ Quintet.

Brooklyn-based pianist Erik Deutsch brings an all-star band to the piano store to celebrate the release of his 6th album Falling Flowers, a funky, energetic romp through the worlds of jazz, soul, blues, dub, and pop music. His playing and compositions are unmistakably personal and unique. For this special concert, Erik will be joined by Bay Area musicians (and friends) Scott Amendola (drums), Miles Wick (bass), Raffi Garabedian (sax), and NYC vocalist Victoria Reed.

S.E. Willis and his band, Ruth Davies on bass and Bobby Cochran on drums and vocals, invite you to their own holiday party, joined by local favorite and great musician Nancy Wright on saxophone and vocals.

The music (mostly originals by Willis) draws on a wide base of American musical forms, including Country, Zydeco, Soul, R&B, and of course Blues, with covers from such artists as Muddy Waters, Hank Williams, Fats Domino, Merle Haggard, Clifton Chenier, Robert Johnson, and Ray Charles. This is a band that delivers a solidly entertaining show of music, executed with superb musicianship, while never losing sight of the goal of providing a danceable good time!

World-renowned composer/recording artist Jim Chappell offers an intimate solo piano performance. He will be playing original music fan favorites from his twenty albums to date, as well as sharing the intriguing stories behind his songs.

Created from of a chance meeting at a jazz club in Prague 2014 and with their new release due out in November of 2018, Anne Sajdera's newest project features two award-winning young composer/instrumentalists from Prague: Miroslav Hloucal (trumpet) & Jan Fečo (alto sax), a special guest appearance by the renowned sax player Bob Mintzer, as well as some of the finest musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area. The ensemble performs original compositions, driving arrangements of traditional Roma melodies, as well as music of modern jazz masters like Herbie Hancock & Kenny Kirkland - at times lyrical, at times angular, yet always rooted in the rhythm, this ensemble reveals a skillful and inspiring sound that reaches musically across two continents and several cultures.

Dan and Kai have been playing as a piano/guitar duo for the past year and have crafted a wonderful musical connection together. With a deeply shared vocabulary and style it often sounds as if they were made to play with each other. It is impressive to hear them together as a unit playing both simple and complex harmonies and rhythms. The joy and richness of Dan and Kai's musicality creates an amazing atmosphere to witness. You will be delighted by the interpretations of standards, original music, and pop selections.

Jazz pianist and vocalist Champian Fulton presents a night of swinging jazz standards. She will be joined by her father Stephen Fulton on flugelhorn. They will play music from her newly released 10th record The Stylings of Champian, a fabulous two disc set featuring 85+ minutes of non-stop swinging Jazz.

Locally adored and Internationally acclaimed jazz and blues singer Kim Nalley is joined by her band, including Tammy Hall (piano), Marcus Shelby (bass), and Kent Bryson (drums). Nalley will lend her three-and-a-half octave range to a memorable set of jazz and blues standards. She was a "Rising Star" nominee in the 2017 DownBeat Critics Poll and her latest CD Blues People received rave reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle and on NPR.

Berkeley born pianist William Beatty will be playing selections from his recent trio recording The Path of Green Stones, as well as some brand new compositions and some jazz standards, all sure to delight the listener! He will be joined by stellar musicians bassist Aaron Germain and drummer Deszon Claiborne, both of whom are featured on the CD, recorded at Fantasy Records in Berkeley.

& Her Unmistakable Band

Vocalist/composer Molly Holm, with her all-star jazz quartet, explores the multicultural crossroads of improvised music through original compositions, straight-ahead and modal jazz tunes and traditional folk songs. Molly's music, often intertwined with the elements of North Indian raga, experimental vocals, or playful free-form improvisation, also reveals the rhythmic and note-bending influences inherited from the music of the African diaspora.

Lynne Arriale will celebrate the release of her highly acclaimed, 14th CD as a leader, Give Us These Days with a concert of solo jazz piano, including Arriale’s compelling originals and her interpretations of beloved classics from The Great American Songbook, Monk, The Beatles, Blondie, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel and Abdullah Ibrahim. Her performances are imbued with lyricism, passion and her ability to tell a musical story and reach her audience.

The nucleus of the band, Macy Blackman, Nancy Wright, and Bing Nathan, will be joined on this occasion by two of the Bay Areas finest musicians, drummer Jay Hansen and clarinetist Danny Bittker. Danny brings all sorts of fun percussion instruments, which sets the tone for the show "Nothing but Fun." They will play material that’s percussion-heavy at times, all of the most fun stuff from their four CDs.

Internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Larry Fuller returns to Piedmont Piano Company with the Larry Fuller Trio, featuring George DeLancey (bass) and Jason Tiemann (drums).
