Made up of musicians who have worked together in various bands for nearly 50 years, this Oakland based band officially formed in 1997. This evening’s show will pay tribute to their original vocalist, who passed about a month ago, Wylie Trass.

The Bobby Young Project is a group of musicians whose objective is to create music that touches the heart and soul. The band is made up of musicians who have worked together for nearly 50 years playing in different bands. Members have all played or recorded, together or individually, with John Lee Hooker, Zakiya Hooker, Michael Henderson, Maria Muldaur, The Natural Four, Norman Conners, John Handy, Xzibit, John Lee Hooker Jr., The Last Nova, E.C. Scott, and a long list of others. The Oakland based band formed officially in 1997 with founding members Bobby Young, and drummer Latrosse Harris, who started working together in 1973. There have been several formations of the band until the current lineup got together about 12 years ago, and the rest has been history. Nominated in 2016, 2017, and 2018 for Blues Band of the year by Northern California Entertainment Music Awards, winning the award in 2016. The band has played the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, Oakland Art and Soul Festival, Santa Rosa Martin Luther King Festival, The San Rafael Great American BBQ, Brews and Blues, Throckmorton Theater, The Empress Theater, as well as being the house band for the Fenix Pro Blues Jam, hosting Eli’s Mile High Blues Mondays, and the A.I.M.-West Red and Blues Concert annually.
The band consists of:
Bobby Young – guitar/vocals an Oakland native raised in a musical family, Bobby has had a 50+ year love affair with music and the guitar.
Nick Young – guitar, also from Oakland, Nick got his first guitar when he was 2, and he’s been playing ever since. His first time on stage was at the age 11 when Zakiya Hooker had him sit in with her band at Biscuits and Blues. Having a strong Rock background, Nick brings the “edge” to the band. He is also Bobby’s son!
Latrosse Harris – drums, another native of Oakland, Latrosse and Bobby started working together with the Natural Four in 1973, and they’re still friends!
Gig Anderson – keyboards, Gig comes to the band from Texas via John Lee Hooker Jr., and a long list of famous names.
Aldwin London - bass player, Oakland native. Plays with Aldwin London Band, Phree Thinkers. and various Bay Area bands. Has opened for B.B King, Albert King, Johnny & Edgar Winter, The Whispers. Commonly known as "All the bass in the place" London is entertainment personified. Singing and performing comes natural as he has wowed crowds from California to Amsterdam.Whether accompanied or by himself London is whole package and some!
Tarika Lewis – violin, another Oakland Native, Tarika brings the talent and sanity to the band! She has worked in a video with Xzibit, she was part of John Handy and Class, she was been part of an episode of “Finding Your Roots,” and she keeps the guys in line!
