Pianist Winnie Cheung is excited to share the stage with her musical brother in combat, Bandoneonista C.C. Lee, this time in the US! Don’t miss these two powerhouses joining forces in a program celebrating a two year collaboration with tango musicians in Taiwan. Their combined love and knowledge of tango has knitted together their local communities. The Tango with Winnie Collective will perform tango classics of Troilo, Pugliese, and Gobbi alongside tango composers of today, with special guest Teresa Tam.

Convinced of tango’s power to include everyone, Pianist-Bandoneonista-Dancer Winnie Cheung launched Tango With Winnie to bring live tango dance and music to both classic and unconventional tango corners of the world: concert halls, milongas, art galleries, farmers markets, K-12 schools, universities, dementia homes, assisted living spaces, prisons, town-wide multicultural celebrations, and more.

With veteran artists that Winnie brings from all over the world, Tango with Winnie handcrafts each program towards any imaginable objective of your event, and invites you sincerely to tango, whoever you are, wherever you are.

Winnie Cheung has played well over 1,000 tango events in the USA, Canada, Asia, Argentina, even Antarctica. For 2023, Winnie completed a record 250+ events. Her album with Cuarteto Tanguero, Guapeando, charted Top 10 Billboard World Music in 2018. Her newest album with the duo Ben & Winnie, La Próxima Traición, was released in 2020 with glowing reviews.

Originally from Hong Kong, Winnie is a globetrotting musician holding a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Chicago and Masters and Doctorate from the Eastman School of Music in Piano and Music Composition. She taught classes in music composition, theory, piano, choir, and music appreciation from ages 5 to 95 in Canada/USA until tango found her. tangowithwinnie.com

JANICE LEE
Janice Lee, violinist and arranger, has performed as soloist with the University of Illinois, Raleigh and East Carolina University Symphony Orchestras and regularly tours with Tango with Winnie in the US and Asia. Along with guitarist Jose Guzman, she performs as J2 strings which celebrates their combined musical background of jazz and classical music. Janice formed the Chicago Avenue Ensemble to present chamber music programming for strings that finds the connections between genres such as contemporary composers, classical music, and popular music.

Summer engagements have included performing in Britten-Pears Orchestra, Caroga Lake Chamber Music Festival, Southern Illinois Music Festival, and National Repertory Orchestra. Recording credits include Britten-Pears Orchestra of Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra under Marin Alsop released by Naxos, Chicago Kids from Giovanny Revelle's eponymous album, and Leslie Damaso's Sirena.

She is a graduate of East Carolina University (BM) and the Cleveland Institute of Music (MM), and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (DMA). Currently she is a Teaching Artist at Chicago Center of Music Education where she shares her musical experiences with students and encourages them to embrace all aspects of creative musicianship. instagram.com/violinzy

C.C. LEE
C.C. Lee is a versatile musician from Taiwan. He received formal musical training in classical violin and piano from a young age. As a violinist, he has excelled in numerous concerts and competitions, notably winning the first prize in the youth competition of Taoyuan, Taiwan. Delving into the realm of the Bandoneon in 2004, Chen-Chung, primarily self-taught, sought guidance from Bandoneon luminaries such as Walter Rios, Rodolfo Daluisio, and Victor Hugo Villena, all of whom lauded his playing and distinctive musicality. Venturing into the world of Tango orchestras, including B-A-N-D-O-N-E-O-N and Tango Aroselli, Chen-Chung has performed across the US, Turkey, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. In 2014, he founded his own Tango ensemble, "Circo," alongside exceptionally talented musicians. Fusing classical and jazz influences, Circo under Chen-Chung's leadership navigates and innovates within the Tango and Piazzolla's musical landscape.

Their debut album, "Light through Cracks, Folds in Time," garnered widespread acclaim, earning Chen-Chung the title of "Best Musician" at Taiwan's Gold Indie Music Awards in 2018. The album also received nominations for "Best Jazz Album" and "Best Jazz Single." Beyond performance, Chen-Chung engages in various musical endeavors, serving as a composer, arranger, and recording artist. His compositions grace documentaries and theatrical productions, showcasing his versatility. Notably, he reimagined the works of renowned aboriginal singer Panai into Tango styles, co-producing her album "Love, and yet," which secured the prestigious "Grand Jury Prize" at Taiwan's Golden Indie Music Awards in 2021. Additionally, Chen-Chung Lee holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. TERESA TAM
Teresa Tam brings more to the table than her long list of degrees, performances and accomplishments. A lifelong musician from Taiwan who began playing piano and violin as a child, Teresa fell in love with singing when she started performing regularly in the Taiwan National Concert Hall with the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus as a preteen. She then continued her vocal and violin studies after moving to the United States. However, after obtaining her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Vocal Performance, Teresa was diagnosed with vocal cord injury, which was a significant setback to a career singer. Through this difficulty, she gained deeper physical awareness and insights while rehabbing her voice. She believes vocal health should always be the top priority for all levels and genres of singing. Teresa brings a unique, fresh perspective in her teaching style using both her professional and personal musical experiences. Having had to rediscover the use of her voice, she is now better able to help her students access their instrument, their voice, with greater precision, intention, and purpose. Teresa graduated from the University of California, Davis, with her Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Vocal Performance. Teresa made her professional debut as a soprano soloist with the American Bach Soloist while still pursuing her undergraduate degree. She obtained her Master in Music, Vocal Performance, from Boston University, College of Fine Arts. She has continued her professional training beyond her Master’s, obtaining certification in Estill Voice Training, Figure Proficiency. Though classically trained, her musical expertise runs the gamut from Jazz to Classical. She has performed as Soprano Soloist with Boston University Haydn Conference – Cambridge Concentus, American Bach Soloist, Boston University Men’s Chorale, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, UC Davis Baroque Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, University Chorus, Chamber Singers. She has also collaborated and performed with Jazz Musicians here in the San Francisco Bay Area, Skyline College Jazz Band, Soundscape Vocal Jazz Ensemble. She frequently appears in various Tango groups including Orquesta Tipica Domo, Corazón Tango, Fuego Tango, Maxi Larrea Trio, Las Almas Tango, Duo Telar of Voice & Guitar, and. Her newest collaboration is with bandoneónist Obadiah Díaz Wrynla and violinist Basma Edrees on blending music and presenting stories from different cultures.
