An accomplished singer, pianist, educator, conductor, and composer, Alex Taite will share songs and stories from his multifaceted career, working in various musical genres and styles, and creating and producing his one-man show, an in-depth exploration of the Negro Spiritual. Followed by audience Q & A. Hosted by vocalist Sharmila G. Lash.

ALEXANDER RAMESES TAITE
A resident and native of Oakland California, Alexander Taite graduated in 2007 from Pepperdine University with a B.A. in music theory and composition, emphasizing in vocal performance and jazz piano. He spent 4 years on the Vocal Faculty at Oakland School for the Arts. He's won multiple awards with the James Toland Vocal Arts competition and the East Bay Opera League scholarship competition. Alex has enjoyed teaching with the SF Opera Guild; directing the graduate level ensemble at the San Francisco Boys Chorus; Singing with the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Opera Choruses; coaching and voice teaching at Cantare Con Vivo; directing and singing in recording projects around the Bay Area; and performing on many Bay Area opera stages. He currently finds great joy in teaching private piano, music theory, and voice lessons; Performing Deep River, his one-man show; writing and publishing new arrangements of traditional negro spirituals; and Directing Chorus Eclectic. alexander-rameses.com

SHARMILA G. LASH
Sharmila G. Lash is sought after as a jazz and classical singer, as well as for her voice-over work. She is a regular chorister with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and has sung with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and SF new music ensemble Volti. She is a private voice instructor, works as a session singer for film and television, and has recorded middle grade and young adult audiobooks. Teaching steadily since 2004, she incorporates her vast professional experience to help guide students to find their own voice. Sharmila began her music studies with piano lessons at age six and singing lessons at age eleven. She was a music student at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and continued on to study classical voice at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she discovered her passion for jazz. She has performed on the some of the most prestigious stages in California, led by Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Michael Tilson Thomas, Zubin Mehta, and others, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, Kronos Quartet, Volti, Carmen Lundy, Don Shelton, Billy Childs, Luciana Souza, as well as with many other top jazz and classical musicians in both Northern and Southern California. sharmilaguhalash.com
