Brazilian choro, samba, jazz and more!

Straight from touring in Brazil, and as faculty at California Brazil Camp, Julio Lemos returns to the Bay Area for the first time since 2020, for a special duo concert with percussionist Ami Molinelli.  The show will feature new original music from Julio Lemos: instrumental choros and sambas with jazz influences.  Featuring music from his new album Brasil Acustico, be prepared to be transported straight to the iconic sounds of Brazil and the innovative sounds of samba and choro, with original works like "Vai Meu Samba." This is a special concert for one evening only.

We are offering a limited number of tickets to attend this performance in person. Advance purchase is required. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. COVID-19 SAFETY: Masking is recommended but no longer required.  


JULIO LEMOS
Julio Lemos, a 7-string guitarist, performer, and composer of Brazilian instrumental music, presents a virtuosic show with influences from composers like Villa-Lobos and Radamés Gnatalli.  He is a specialist in the language of choro and samba with influences from Dino 7-cordas, Rafael Rabelo, Baden Powell and Marco Pereira. 

He has been a professor at the Federal University of Goiás since 2010, a doctorate in music from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and part of the doctorate from San Francisco State University in California. He has recently recorded with Hermeto Pascoal, Marcos Sacramento, Silvério Pontes, Eduardo Neves, Carlos Malta, Marco Pereira e Luis Filipe. He has played and taught workshops in Europe, United States, and China. He was a judge of the São Paulo carnival between 2017 and 2019, and he recently recorded his CD/DVD, Brasil Acústico, available on all digital platforms. juliolemos.net

AMI MOLINELLI
Ami Molinelli is an American percussionist and educator specializing in American, Brazilian, and world percussion. She co-leads the Brazilian and jazz ensemble Grupo Falso Baiano with three albums to their credit, and her album with Duo Violao plus one Historia do Choro with Rio de Janeiro duo Rogeiro Souza and Edinho Gerber. Her extensive performance and recording credits include theater, television (NBC), and live performances with artists such as Luciana Souza, Rogerio Souza, Jovino Santos Neto, Hamilton de Holanda, Nilson Matta, Romero Lubambo, Jai Uttal, George Duke, John Heard, and Teka.  Ami specializes in the pandeiro, the Brazilian frame drum and tambourine, and has been featured on podcasts like ”The Brazilian Beat."  amimo.com
