Adam Klipple Organ Quintet

Adam Klipple brings his new Hammond B3 organ quintet to the piano store to play original, soulful arrangements of songs you know that are sure to surprise! The quintet includes Kai Lyons on guitar, Tony Peebles on sax, and Joel Behrman on trombone, with special guest drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. Adam and Ulysess reconnected after both teaching at Jazz Camp West this past summer. Super swinging and soulful, Ulysses is sure to drive the band to new heights!

ADAM KLIPPLE
Adam Klipple, who has been described as "a standout pianist who has gone to school on McCoy Tyner and Cecil Taylor and earned his degree," plays piano, Hammond organ, sampler, and a variety of vintage keyboards. He currently records and performs with Veronica Swift, and is a member of the legendary jazz rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Adam has recorded and performed onstage with the likes of Ghostface Killah, Lauryn Hill, Graham Haynes, the Sun Ra Arkestra, Craig Harris, Joe Bowie's Defunkt, Sekou Sundiata, Marc Ribot, John Medeski, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Carla Cook, Dave Fiuczynski, David Gilmore, Josh Roseman, Peter Apfelbaum, Jay Rodriguez, Groove Collective, and Smokey Robinson. He has appeared at renowned venues including the Blue Note, Iridium, the Jazz Standard, Blues Alley, and the Knitting Factory, and at jazz festivals around the world.

Also a composer and arranger, Adam has earned grants from Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Arts International, Meet the Composer, and the U.S. Department of State, enabling him to tour and teach master classes in southeast Asia, the Pacific Rim, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. adamklipple.com

ULYSSES OWENS JR
Heralded as a “powerhouse of a showman” (Glide Magazine), a “legitimate jazz triple threat” (Critical Jazz) and a drummer who “take[s] a back seat to no one” (The New York Times), performer, producer and educator Ulysses Owens Jr. goes the limit in the jazz world and beyond, winning numerous awards and high praise. Claiming four successful albums of his own, Owens has also gained special attention for his performances on the GRAMMY award-winning albums with Kurt Elling, Christian McBride, Joey Alexander, and Gregory Porter.

An active faculty member of the Jazz Studies Program at his alma mater, The Juilliard School, Visiting Artist in Residence at Utah State University, and Faculty Artist in Residence at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida where he teaches the Music Business course. He also oversees artistic and community programming for hundreds of children and teens as Artistic Director for Don’t Miss a Beat, Inc., a youth-empowerment non-profit founded by his family in 2008 in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.

TONY PEEBLES
Over the past twenty years, Tony Peebles has performed in many different genres with such artists as: Fred Wesley (James Brown), The Grammy Award-Winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra, Karl Denson, Don Carlos, Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Wil Blades, The Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy, Kenny Washington, John Lee Hooker Jr., Karl Perazzo (Santana), Katchafire, and Doc Severinsen to name just a few. Tony has toured Europe, Africa, North and South America with reggae legend Don Carlos, and throughout Europe, Australia and the Pacific islands with New Zealand’s busy, international touring band, Katchafire. With these groups and others, Tony has played numerous major music venues and festivals worldwide, from Monterey to Montreux. 

Tony maintains a very busy schedule in and around the SF Bay Area, performing with a wide variety of groups at the area’s best music venues: SFJAZZ, Yoshi’s, Black Cat, Mr. Tipples, Keys Jazz Bistro, The Independent, The Fillmore, Madrone Art Bar, The Boom Boom Room, and Mama Kin, where he hosts a popular weekly jazz jam session. 

KAI LYONS
28-year-old San Francisco native Kai Lyons is a young man keeping the jazz tradition alive. He has deeply studied and absorbed many styles of jazz guitar and is a perfect foil for Adam's classic organ trio. Currently, he immerses himself in the study of Cuban and Brazilian music. In 2022, he became the first foreigner to win 1st prize at the international changüí festival of Guantánamo Cuba, on the Cuban guitar known as the “tres cubano”.  He was the music director of Loco Bloco, winning 1st prize in the 2022 Carnaval parade of San Francisco. He is constantly traveling the world studying ancient and obscure styles in Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Ghana and Morocco. He is currently Adjunct Professor of Jazz Guitar at Cal State East Bay and teaching-artist for the San Francisco Symphony.

JOEL BEHRMAN
Joel has been a fixture in the Bay Area for many years. He is has worked with several local groups including the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra, and the Glide Change Band. Joel has worked regularly with such local stars as Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, and former Tower of Power lead singer, Lenny Williams. He has also made appearances with such artists as Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The O'Jays, Gladys Knight, Boz Scaggs, Etta James, Tony! Toni! Tone!, The Funk Brothers, Barry Manilow, and Josh Groban.
