The No Piano Orchestra
The No Piano Orchestra is trumpeter Josh Reed, vibraphonist Dillon Vado, with drummer Tim Bulkley, and bassist Peter Barshay. In addition to original work, the NPO will feature unique and adventurous approaches to some of the endless variety of great jazz and other compositions.

DILLON VADO
Dillon Vado is a drummer and vibraphonist who plays music that is an honest representation of a broad range of influences. Dillon is known for making music that is dynamic and complex but memorable and relatable. As comfortable laying down Brazilian grooves on drum set as he is improvising with poets on vibraphone, Dillon can be found playing with many of his own projects including The Table Trio, Third Light and Never Weather, who released their debut album Blissonance in 2020.
As a sideman, Dillon can be found performing with skilled vocalists like Danielle Wertz and Amy Dabalos, Brazilian music with Marcos Silva, the Oakland Samba Revue and Sandy Cressman, and many other projects including The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra, Silvestre Martinez and his Bad Hombres, The Michael Echaniz trio and the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra. dillonvado.com
JOSH REED
Josh D. Reed, DMA, is a trumpeter and educator who holds degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder, the Eastman School of Music and James Madison University. As a performer, Reed has shared the stage with artists such as Dave Douglas, Brad Goode, Anat Cohen, Art Lande, Tommy Igoe, Greg Gisbert, Paquito D'Rivera, Rufus Reid and Darlene Love. He currently leads his own trio, quartet and quintet.
As an educator, he has taught private lessons, ensembles and courses at Lagond Music School in New York, Metropolitan State University in Colorado, University of Colorado and communities throughout the United States. Reed directed the jazz program at the University of Missouri in the spring of 2017 before directing the jazz program at Santa Clara University. He joined the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno in fall 2019 as an assistant professor of jazz trumpet.
Reed released his first recording as a leader: "Leaping Forward" featuring Art Lande in 2017 and will be releasing a new album, "No Signs Ahead" with drummer Dave King in 2023. He is also featured on Art Deco's "Free Range," Emily Takahashi's "Not Spoken," Omar Thomas's "I Am," Matt Smiley's "Quartet Art," Dillon Vado's "Never Weather," and Tim Wendel's "Westward You."
PETER BARSHAY
A veteran bassist who has established a strong reputation over the years from his sideman work on both the New York City and San Francisco Bay Area jazz scenes, Peter Barshay has performed with such jazz luminaries as Kenny Barron, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Kenny Werner, Shirley Horn, Woody Shaw, Pharoah Sanders, Blue Mitchell, Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Johnny Griffin, and Bobby McFerrin. Barshay’s numerous appearances at clubs and jazz festivals have taken him around the world, helping to establish his reputation as a solid, reliable bassist. Having soaked up a lifetime of sounds on both coasts -- everything from salsa and straight ahead to funk-fusion, avant garde and music derived from the Afro-Cuban and Brazilian traditions -- he brings a wealth of experience to the musical table.
TIM BULKLY
Drummer Tim Bulkley can be seen and heard in a variety of contexts. He grew up the Bay Area & spent time in New York, learning from mentors & peers throughout. Some people Tim has played with are Peter Bernstein, Randy Porter, Stacey Kent, Dayna Stephens & Boz Scaggs.
