JOHN R. BURR piano
Pianist John R. Burr is a musician of wide ranging and diverse style. Although firmly rooted in Blues and Jazz, he is heavily influenced by his love of vocal music ranging from the Beatles to the Great American Songbook, to traditional Celtic folk songs. He is a sought-after Accompanist and Arranger on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene, regularly appearing with Jackie Ryan, Kenny Washington, Tony Lindsay, Nicolas Bearde, and Kitty Margolis. Through his touring and recording with Vocalist Maria Muldaur, he became enamored with the piano stylings of New Orleans piano masters James Booker, Professor Longhair and Dr. John — incorporating their influences musical makeup. His 1998 solo piano recording “Piedmont Avenue” received critical acclaim, and his song, “For The Asking,” was featured on two Windham Hill recordings, Piano Sampler II, and again on “Sundown.” He co-authored the Grammy Nominated song “ Under The Five Wire” with Alison in 2007. AFRIKAHN JAHMAL DAYVS Executive Producer
Afrikahn Jahmal Dayvs has been working in radio since 1971, starting out in Oklahoma on two different stations. A few years later, the greater San Francisco Bay Area became his next movement on the airwaves with shows on over six stations, including internet radio. His love of Jazz and Blues, its roots, inspirational musicians, and especially the desire to showcase an array of the amazing breadth of talent that the Bay Area has to offer, lead him to produce and host the BAJABA radio show on independent station KKUP/KPFA. Bay Area Jazz And Blues Artists (B.A.J.A.B.A.) ShowCase was created by the late, great Jazz Activist Doug Edwards, ('The Doug of Edwards as he was known), who passed away in September 2010. LESLIE STOVAL Host
Leslie Stoval is a Host at the San Francisco Bay Area's Jazz radio station, KCSM Jazz 91 FM in San Mateo, California. In the 1970s, Leslie enrolled at Stanford University and announced News at KZSU, while attending the University. Post-graduation, with her Communications degree in hand, she set her sights on her first professional radio gig. It came in the form of a DJ at WVKO in Columbus, where she hosted a very popular overnight Jazz-Fusion program to the Ohio State University listening audience. Six months later, she arrived at KRE-AM/FM radio in Berkeley, CA, where she became an Announcer, Programmer, and Curator. Eventually, KRE morphed into KBLX and into Leslie's "Quiet Storm" period, which she is proud to say that she helped introduce that format. Along with many other talented individuals, she also helped introduce crossover radio at KMEL. Leslie had the honor of being the first solo female morning show Host in the Bay Area. You can hear Leslie on the airwaves every Tuesday night from 6:00—10:00 PM on The Jazz Oasis program. kcsm.org
