ABOUT NICOLAS BEARDE
The Jazz Examiner says: "Bearde's sophisticated, revelatory vocals are simply stunning in their bare essence.”
San Francisco-based Nicolas Bearde is a bona fide jazz master who first made his mark more than 30 years ago as a founding member of Bobby McFerrin's wildly innovative a capella ensemble, " Voicestra." He has released 6 solo CD's on the Right Groove Records label, and has won accolades from critics and jazz audiences worldwide for his "velvet tone" and engaging performances.
Bearde's music has been critically acclaimed by Jazziz, Jazz Times, Jazz Week and All About Jazz, and as leader has performed and/or recorded around the world from San Francisco and New York to London, Paris, Moscow and Bejing with such luminaries such as Vincent Herring, Eric Alexander, Josh Nelson and Nat Adderley, Jr. nicolasbearde.com
Glen Pearson is both a noted pianist as well as the current head of music studies at the College of Alameda. He began playing piano at age six and was playing professionally by age fifteen. He has appeared on stage, television and on recordings with such notables as Regina Belle, Jimmy Scott, Diane Reeves, Marlena Shaw, Bobby Hutcherson and Will Downing. Mr. Pearson served for 11 years as the Musical/Band Director for the World Renowned Boy’s Choir of Harlem, and is currently the pianist for the Count Basie Band.
Ruth Davies has performed with such jazz and blues greats as Keb'Mo, Clark Terry, John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, Etta James, and has toured the world with legendary blues artists, Charles Brown for 10 years. As an educator, she believes in teaching and bringing music to the public schools, and has been on the faculty at the Stanford Jazz workshop for 17 years.
Leon Joyce, Jr. played with Ramsey Lewis and Nancy Wilson in Chicago for many years, before moving to California. Critics say that Leon's drumming style transcends categorization, as he is equally at home with funk, gospel and rock. He studied theory, conducting, and rehearsal technique at the Armed Forces School of Music, and was the drummer for the History Makers PBS special, "An Evening with Smokey Robinson."
