Dan Zemelman & Erik Jekabson team together to play a livestream duo concert of music spanning different styles and composers.  Working together since the early 2000's, they have played/taught in many different contexts together with The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra, with Erik's New Orleans group featuring Kenny Washington, at Jazzcamp West, and Stanford Jazz, to name a few.  Tune in as these two wonderful musicians create diverse musical landscapes together and improvise colorfully and vibrantly.

Dan Zemelman is a leader and innovator of jazz music in the San Francisco bay area scene. In 1998 Dan participated in the Kennedy Center’s prestigious Jazz Ambassadors program and toured India and Sri Lanka sponsored by the US State Department, representing America’s jazz tradition through teaching and performances.  After moving from Chicago to the San Francisco area in 2001, Dan contributed to blues legend John Lee Hooker’s final studio album Face to Face and toured with daughter and blues vocalist, Zakiya Hooker.  Dan studied under the tutilege of legendary jazz bassist Richard Davis at the University of Wisconsin and along with winning an award there as Best Jazz Artist in 1998. Dan is currently a successful bandleader, having performed at the acclaimed Yoshi's Jazz Club three times as a leader as well as at festivals such as the Angra Jazz Festival, the Fillmore Jazz Festival, the SF Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Festival and many more.  As an in-demand jazz pianist in the SF bay area, he plays regularly with top bay area jazz icons like Marcus Shelby and Adam Theis as well as his own trio featuring Zach Ostroff on bass and Alan Hall on drums.   As a teacher and clinician, Dan has been on the faculty at several major jazz institutions including Stanford Jazz Institute, Jazzcamp West, The California Jazz Conservatory and Lafayette Jazz Camp.

Erik Jekabson is a freelance trumpet player, composer, arranger and educator who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.  He is equally busy playing and composing for different bands, leading his own groups, (the Erik Jekabson Sextet, the String-tet and the Electric Squeezebox Orchestra) teaching a wide variety of students and running the Young Musicians Program at the California Jazz Conservatory.

Erik has eight CDs out under his own name: his most recent album is “One Note at a Time” (2020) on the Wide Hive label. He’s spent time on the road with Illinois Jacquet, John Mayer, Galactic, and the Howard Fishman Quartet, and has performed at such notable venues as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Algonquin Room, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Madison Square Garden, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman.

As an arranger and composer, he’s arranged for both vocalists and instrumental ensembles. He currently leads his own ensembles in the Bay Area, and has brought them to many festivals and venues.

Erik holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Master’s Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He’s a regular instructor at Jazzcamp West, the Stanford Jazz Workshop, the Lafayette Summer Jazz Workshop and the  Brubeck Institute, and has written two books of jazz duets for trumpet.
