Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, vocalist Kátia Moraes brings choro and samba to San Francisco this spring. Moraes’s singing, as praised by the Los Angeles Times, “is a virtual definition of the passion that is an implicit part of Brazilian music.”

Moraes began performing in the 1980s, sharing the stage with the high-energy Brazilian band O Espirito da Coisa. Since then, she has worked with some of the foremost acts around the globe, including Sergio Mendes, Airto Moreira, Oscar Castro-Neves, Rita Lee, Elba Ramalho, Sandy and Junior, Banda Cheiro de Amor, George Duke, Alex Acuña and Justo Almario’s Tolú, Latin Project, and Praful. In 1990, she moved to LA, where she began working as a voiceover artist in film and television. In 2011, Moraes created the annual musical entitled Brazilian Heart, a Celebration paying homage to inspiring Brazilian singer-songwriters.

American violinist, mandolinist and composer Ted Falcon grew up listening to jazz and the Brazilian music of Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim and Luiz Bonfá. He has lived and worked as a professional musician in New York City, Los Angeles, São Paulo, and Brasília, the capital of Brazil. Ted has written and published several books about Brazilian music for the Escola de Choro Raphael Rabello, (Clube do Choro) the nation’s most respected choro school.

He has performed with Hermeto Pascoal, Dominguinhos, Armandinho Macêdo, Thiago Espirito Santo, Hamilton de Holanda and many other incredible Brazilian musicians. In the U.S., he has performed along side of David Grisman and Mike Marshall and has recorded with Suzanne Vega and Ben E. King.

Eduardo Souza, Brazilian guitarist, performs with the choro group Folha Seca as well as with Tiago Tunes, Sérgio Morais and singer Alessandra Terribili.

He leads his own samba trio where he sings original compositions and plays guitar. His musical influences include great Brazilian artists such as Chico Buarque, Villa-Lobos, Dilermando Reis, Adoniran Barbosa as well as artists from other styles and nationalities ~ Manu Chao, Piazzolla, Bach, Flaming Lips, Camarón de la Isla. Eduardo is the guitarist in the group Gypsy Jazz Club. He is on tour in the US from Brasilia, BR.

Ami Molinelli is a professional percussionist and educator specializing in Brazilian and Latin percussion, especially the pandeiro. She is the co-leader of the Brazilian choro and jazz ensemble, Grupo Falso Biano, whose last CD was released in 2017. She has toured with Duo Violao which consists of acclaimed 7-string Brazilian guitar player, composer and choro master Rogerio Souza and Edinho Gerber. She has performance and recording credits include theater, television (NBC) and live performances with artists such as Rogerio Souza, Jovino Santos-Neto, Hamilton de Holanda, Teka, Jai Uttal, and Michael Spiro.
