Piedmont Piano Company is pleased to present

Henry Kaiser and Friends
Tribute to the Music of Steve Lacy

Guitar maverick Henry Kaiser has formed a quartet of sympathetic improvisers to present a tribute to jazz iconoclast and cultural treasure, soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy. Joining Henry for the evening are cellist Danielle DeGruttola, pianist Tania Chen, and soprano saxophonist Bruce Ackley. The foursome was part of a recent re-imagining of Lacy’s classic 1970’s recording The Wire, which will be a forthcoming CD. This program will consist of Lacy compositions from those sessions and more.

Henry Kaiser and Bruce Ackley have a 4-decade recording and performance history that stretches back to the 1970’s, when each was deeply touched by Lacy’s unique style and acute intellectualism, which helped to reshape the sound of jazz. Tania Chen and Danielle DeGruttola have classical roots, plus the technique and big ears for adventurous and thoughtful improvisations. Together the quartet promises a compelling and lyrical evening of compositions by the late jazz master, Steve Lacy.
