Jazz Camp West Faculty members Adam Theis and Colin Hogan will be joined by virtuoso Bay Area drummer Darian Gray (Booker T Jones/Lyrics Born) and will be performing a wide array of their trademark original arrangements, mash-ups and compositions. All three bandmates are multi-instrumentalists so expect the unexpected!

Adam Theis is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, bandleader and composer based in Oakland, CA who plays trombone, trumpet, tuba, bass, keyboards and many other instruments. In 2000 Theis co-founded Jazz Mafia, an eclectic artist-collective of some of the most forward-thinking and accomplished players in the fields of Electro, Hip-Hop, World, Classical and of course, Jazz. As Jazz Mafia's director, Adam has assembled over 100 different live projects over the past 16 years and led/co-led dozens of acclaimed bands. He is also the Director of the SF Jazz Monday Night Band, Director of the Truckee Jazz Camp and winner of the Gerbode-Hewlett Foundation's "Emerging Composer" Grant.

Theis has produced and co-written music for notable artists such as Lyrics Born, Zion-I, Rebelution, Latyrx, Galactic, Ledesi, Blackalicious and many more. As a sideman, Adam and his horn section have created interesting collaborations with a wide range of top-level artists including: Bobby McFerrin, Roy Ayers, Chali 2na, Booker T. Jones, Spearhead, Zigaboo Modeliste, Zap Mama, Eric Lindell, Dead Winter Carpenters, KRS One, Wax Tailor, The New Master Sounds, Peter Rowan, Coultrain, J Boogie's Dubtronic Science, The Velvetteen and dozens more.

Adam's commitment and dedication to bringing high quality, creative, independent, diverse music to the bay area and beyond has been the center of the Jazz Mafia movement. He is a cornerstone of the music community and has shaped the sound of San Francisco, influenced the lives and careers of hundreds of musicians and inspired audiences all over the world with his music and leadership. jazzmafia.com

Colin Hogan was born in San Francisco, CA. He was a member of the world-renowned Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble while also studying with the Jazzschool's founder, Susan Muscarella. He then attended Cal State East Bay (Hayward) where he earned a BA in piano performance.

Colin has performed on five continents and has shared the stage with many legendary jazz musicians including James Moody, Peter Erskine, Bob Brookmeyer, Roy Ayers, and Maria Schneider. Colin is currently involved in many projects including The Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy, Dynamic, The Jazz Mafia, Trio Zincalo and The Hogan Brothers with brothers Steve and Julian.

He has worked as a music educator at SFJAZZ, Jazz Camp West, and The Community School of the East Bay and is currently an instructor at Cal State East Bay and the California Jazz Conservatory. He lives in Oakland, CA. thehoganbrothers.com
