Master Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos Neto comes to the Bay Area to collaborate with vocalist Sandy Cressman and trombonist Jeff Cressman to play music from Cressman's recent CD Entre Amigos as well as selections from Jovino's repertoire. They will be joined by bassist David Belove, drummer Dillon Vado, and other musical friends.

Jovino Santos Neto worked as a pianist, flutist, and producer with the legendary Hermeto Pascoal in his native Brazil for 15 years. Since moving to Seattle in 1993, he has released several recordings as a composer and leader of his Quinteto and others in collaboration with musicians such as Bill Frisell, Gretchen Parlato, Paquito d’Rivera and many more. A worldwide performer and lecturer, he has received many commissions and awards for his work for orchestras, soloists, chamber ensembles and for his Quinteto. Jovino’s music blends contemporary harmonies and improvisations with a rich variety of Brazilian rhythmic languages. Jovino has received three nominations for a Latin Grammy and has been inducted into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame. He’s a Professor of Music at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Sandy Cressman is a San Francisco-based jazz vocalist who began her career recording and performing with the Vocal Jazz group “Pastiche,” before she focused on her passion for Brazilian jazz. She has toured the US, Europe, and Brazil performing with her group “Homenagem Brasileira” and collaborating with other Brazilian musicians and Brazilian Music specialists. In February 2017, Cressman released her third Brazilian music CD, Entre Amigos, which features all original music she composed with contemporary Brazilian composers such as Santos Neto, Antonio Adolfo, Ian Faquini, and more. Cressman is an adjunct professor at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California, Artist-in-Residence at the Nueva School in the San Francisco Bay Area, and she teaches at JazzCampWest, Stanford Jazz Workshop, Voice Conference Munich, and various workshops and Vocal Intensives in the US, Europe, and Brazil.

The Entre Amigos CD also features trombonist Jeff Cressman, who not only contributed beautiful solos and horn parts, but also engineered and mixed most of the tracks. Cressman toured internationally with the Carlos Santana band for 16 years, and recorded multiple CDs with the band, including the blockbuster Supernatural. Jeff also has recorded and toured with such diverse artists as Don Cherry, the Peter Apfelbaum Sextet, the Hieroglyphics Ensemble, Trey Anastasio Band, Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra, the Charlie Hunter Trio, Tito Puente, Sheila E., Pete Escovedo, the Machete Ensemble, Ray Obiedo, and Jon Jang and the Pan Asian Arkestra. Jeff's interests in the recording arts have led him to engineer and produce numerous Jazz and Latin CD projects, including recording and producing 12 multi-CD sets for the San Francisco Jazz Collective, CDs by John Santos and the Machete Ensemble, Eddie Marshall and Holy Mischief, Peck Allmond, Wayne Wallace, Hafez Modirzadeh, Rob Sudduth, and many more. Jeff also has engineered live recordings for NPR, the Monterey Jazz Festival, and See's Candies' Sunday Night Suites syndicated radio show. Jeff has mixed numerous live shows for such artists as Betty Carter, Toots Thielmanns, the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Sheila E.
