The Dan Zemelman Quartet is a collaboration between four musicians who explore the emotional and spiritual territory at the intersection of jazz and improvisation. They perform original songs and creative arrangements of standards, using each as a springboard for their journey.

Dan Zemelman is a classically trained pianist who developed a passion for jazz in his early adulthood. In 1998, as part of the Kennedy Center’s Jazz Ambassadors program, Dan toured India and Sri Lanka, representing America’s jazz tradition through teaching and performances. After moving from Chicago to the Bay Area, he was honored to contribute to John Lee Hooker’s last studio album, Face to Face. He currently plays regularly with the Bay Area's great bassist/composer Marcus Shelby among others as well as with his own quartet which debuted at Yoshi's last February with a very successful CD release party. They have since played for the SF Jazz Summerfest series and have received an honorary position as an alternate band for Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rhythm Road 2010 music abroad program.
